The 2013 State of the American Workplace Report found that 70% of Americans are unhappy with their jobs. This discontentment basically boils down to the following: the majority of our fellow Americans feel overworked, under-paid, engaged in work that is uninspiring, and under-appreciated by their employers. Something’s got to give.
It’s my sincere wish that by the time, God willing, we say goodbye to next summer and
celebrate yet another Labor Day, there will be a profound change for the better in the employment mood of our nation.
1. I wish to see an America in which loyalty is once again a two-way street between employees and employers. Wouldn’t it be great to see employers feel indebted and in gratitude for their employees’ services and reward them accordingly?
2. I wish to see a shift in thinking in this country from a dog-eat-dog attitude and a false belief in the Scarcity Principle into a true understanding that there is no shortage of work or money in this world. It just has to be distributed better.
3. I wish to see an America in which each and every one of us has employment worthy of our skills.
4. I wish to see us return to a country where people operate under the Law of Maximum effort and do their jobs to the best of their abilities.
5. I wish to see an America where people feel appreciated for their efforts and, consequently, whistle while they work.
5. I wish to see a return to the entrepreneurial spirit that this country was built on. If you can’t find a job, then see something that needs doing and do it. In this day and age of computers and web sites, all you really need is a skill and some creativity in marketing your business. In the 21st century, it really is much easier to launch a small business with your web site as an advertisement tool, your skills, and word-of-mouth being all you really need to make your own business grow.
6. I wish to see an America in which people begin to return to a positive mind-set about work and service and this positivity becomes contagious and spreads throughout the land.
7. I wish to see an America in which we all begin to feel that we’re not just doing a job, but performing a labor of love.
8. I wish to see an America in which people treat each other with respect and gratitude for services rendered.
9. I wish to see an America where everyone feels as happy and fulfilled in their life mission as I do.
10. On this Labor Day, 2014, I wish to see America shifting into a positive and life-confirming work ethic that serves all of our higher good.
Have a good one!
