Tonight's Moon Illusion — The Dangerous Return

Try to get out tonight and watch the moonrise, and watch yourself be tricked into thinking that the moon is unusually large.  This moon illusion is a trick our minds play that makes us think that the moon is bigger when it’s near the horizon.  This effect is most pronounced at full moon.  This illusion will appear all the more real, since this is a “solstice moon” coming just two days before summer starts in the Northern Hemisphere.

As you meditate on this new moon illusion, I want you to think about your own life.  Are there things that you are not seeing correctly?   Are you allowing small, insignificant things to loom larger than life?  Could this just be your minds way of tricking and distracting you from dealing with the real issues that need addressing?

Say a prayer as you look at the full moon.  Ask God to remove the smoke and mirrors from you eyes, so that you may see things as they truly are.   Stop with all the slight of hand manipulations you use to alter and distort reality.  Learn to hear what is being said, and not what you want to hear, and stop going into denial when someone tells you something you’d rather not know.   Say what you mean and mean what you say.  Buddha said, “Better than a thousand words, is one word that brings peace.”

Does this lesson in moon madness and mind trickery make you wonder what else in your life needs to be looked at through a clear lens, and not one distorted by all your fears, false beliefs, and illusions?
